About Historic Homes in Florida: Riverside, Avondale & Ortega

There are many places to find Historic Homes in Florida.  If you travel the St. Johns River southward from downtown Jacksonville and you’ll enter a magical community offering tranquility with a dash of modern-day charm. You are now in the historic neighborhoods of Riverside, Avondale, and Ortega. Riverside, Avondale and Ortega offer a mix of riverfront condos, upscale retirement living and historic single family homes. These communities are known for their well-planned beautiful parks offering play areas for children, walking paths and open green areas.

The Shoppes of Avondale are neatly planted in the middle of this community and offer a multitude of quaint eateries and upscale boutiques. Avondale hosts several popular events throughout the year including the Luminaria, a holiday tradition where residents work to line the city streets with Luminaria candles in celebration of the season.

Drive south along the St. Johns River from Avondale and, as the river curves, you will arrive at one of the oldest, most charming neighborhoods in Jacksonville — Ortega. Ortega is home to the Florida Yacht Club, the oldest yacht club in the state and was recently named the 46th wealthiest neighborhood in the U.S. by Worth magazine. Like Avondale, Ortega boasts quiet and charming, tree-lined streets with beautiful homes. The communitie's shopping district is the staging area for Ortega’s annual Fall Festival where you will see horse-drawn carriages offering rides and families having plain, simple fun.
